Barley Goodness

Over the years I have shared many recipes with my clients and this little gem is one of them.

It is so easy to make Barley Water, which is cost-effective and naturally helps during hot, steamy summers.

Give it a try and let me know how you find it works for you

Barley is helpful for:

  • Indigestion and regulating the stomach
  • Diarrhea
  • Pain when urinating
  • Edema and to disperse swelling
  • Burns on the skin
  • Boost energy
  • Cools and builds blood

How to make Barley Water

  • 2.4 litre water
  • 2 tablespoon barley
  • Juice of 4 lemons
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • few sprigs lemon balm or mint

Wash the barley grain, and simmer the sugar and barley in water for 30 minutes. Strain and add lemon balm and lemon juice. Chill to drink at your leisure.

Barley Tea

Wash and dry the barley grain. Once dry, fry 2 tablespoons of grain until slightly brown and aromatic, and steep in 2 litres of hot water for 5 minutes to make a tea with a few slices of fresh ginger. Drink it as a substitute for regular tea or juice, which is good for people who feel thirsty in hot weather.

Notes

  • Both recipes are caffeine-free
  • You may notice various flavours of either Barley tea or Barley water when using water from different locations

Ref: food cures, food for the seasons, herbs a way of life.
