Ways to invigorate Lung Energy

Recently at an acupuncture appointment, I discovered through pulse diagnosis my lung energy was low and required support to balance the internal health of my body.

During this treatment, the acupuncturist used her ultra-thin needles at specific points to invigorate the lung energy to assist my healing.

It was afterward I realised why I was so tired and wondered what I could do to continue to vibrant health.

From a Traditional Chinese Medicine perspective, the lung energy of the Ba-Gua on the Five Element Cycle is the Metal energy. This energy is about cutting through emotions and situations that affect our boundaries. It separates the pure from the impure, helping the cleansing process which creates an effective season to detox, assisting the elimination of physical and emotionally blocked energy.

This Metal energy relates Lungs and the Autumn season regardless of the north or south hemisphere. The direction West when doing Feng Shu for home and office, the colour White, Dryness inside and outside. Includes the expression of weeping and grief, the flavour pungent, while the large intestine is the balancing Yang organ and both Lung and Large Intestine reflects in the nose.

As a Chinese Medicine Practitioner discusses Metal energy be aware one organ/energy affects another it does not stand alone as our body is a machine and all body parts need to work in harmony just like an engine of a car to feel fantastic and have optimum performance.

My feelings prior to my treatment were:

  • Tiredness
  • Dry skin
  • Constipation
  • Dry cough

This made me think about what I could specifically do at home to help invigorate the lung energy:

  1. Lymphasizing discussed in my book on page 76 How to Turn off your Negative Mind Chatter
  2. Eat pungent foods particularly herbs in meals,
  3. Eat root vegetables such as carrots, sweet potato, potato, radishes, cauliflower, ginger, garlic and onion.

Now that I have rebooted my lungs for healing, I hope you can incorporate some of these actions to improve your lung energy and be full of energy prior to Autumn and our winter season.
